Here’s to the 2014 Winter Olympics. Russia did a splendid job as host. Remarkable. I was proud for the Russian people, great coming out party and the most medals at the games.

Thursday night lights
Every Thursday evening the 40 or so students that make up the Rambler Sports Locker walk in the door at 4:15 to produce a show that didn’t exist three and a half years ago. The all volunteer crew is incredibly bright and hard working and content is coming along. Any student can join the show and every person that walks in the door gets a standing ovation. It’s the culture of welcome and inclusion the students at Loyola University Chicago have embraced. In less than two weeks, I’ll travel with five students to cover the league finals call “Arch Madness” because it is played in St. Louis. Extremely proud of this group.
Ukrainian protestors peacefully march on Chicago consulate
About 350-400 Ukrainian protestors gathered at the Water Tower and then marched about a half mile to the Ukraine Consulate. Their goal was to raise awareness about what they say has been the slaughter of innocents and the tyranny of a dictator who went back on his word. As of this moment there is news of a possible settlement between opposition forces in Kiev and the president, but it’s a fluid situation. Some Ukrainian protestors say there can be no deal until Ukrainian Pres Viktor F Yanukovych is either dead or leaves office.

Another day in Chicago, another snowstorm
I’m not sure about the exact number, but I believe this makes 10, the number of major snow dumps since New Year’s Eve. I still love being in the snow, but I don’t have to drive or commute. People are stressed and tired of it and I can’t say I blame them. This is my fifth winter in Chicago and by far the coldest one with the most snow. The temperature got up to 39 degrees today and on Thursday could bump 50, but the respite will be short. Single digit temperatures will be back at the tail end of the weekend and into early next week. If it’s going to be cold, I say let it show, let it snow, let it snow.
